Scoring

The Golden Year of Racing is comprised of 5 Regattas:

The Newport Trophy Regatta - July 25 - 26
The Edgartown 12 Metre Regatta - August 8 - 9
The Nantucket 12 Metre Regatta - August 13 - 14
The 12 Metre World Championships - September 23 - 27
New York Classic Week - October 2 - 3

The above 5 regattas will be scored by Division in accordance with RRS Appendix A - Low Point System.

The Golden Year Trophy (4 trophies)will be awarded by Division to the 12 Metre yacht that has compiled the
best score for the 5 regatta series. The scoring will be based on the Low Point System, however
those yachts not competing in a given regatta will be scored with points equaling the
total number of yachts competing in a given Division plus one. That is to say that if 6 Division A ~
Grand Prix yachts are to compete in the series, those yachts who scored a DNS will receive a given
7 points. The trophy will be presented at the awards ceremony at the New York Classic Week.

The Newport Trophy (one trophy) will be awarded to the yacht competeing in the Newport Trophy Regatta
with the best overall performance in that regatta regardless of the division.

The Ted Hood Trophy (4 trophies) is awarded annually for the “Best Overall Performance” by a 12 Metre yacht,
by Division, competing in designated races of the Americas Fleet regatta schedule. The scoring method used
to determine the Division winners is the inverted scoring system, scored as follows:

If 4 yachts compete in a Division: 1st place gets 5 points; 2nd place gets 3 points; 3rd place gets 2 points and
4th place gets 1 point.

Conversely, if 2 yachts compete in a Division: 1st place gets 3 points and 2nd place gets 1 point. 2 points are
awarded if only one yacht competes in a Division.

Ted Hood Trophy will be awarded at the 2009 12 Metre World Championships awards ceremony.

The regattas highlighted with a TH in the Americas Fleet Schedule count towards the trophy.
